Their recording output until now has been consistently impressive yet incredibly varied. Yet, with this long-awaited EP, KINS have settled in shadow to produce a stirring collection of beautiful but deadly post-indie modernism.
Lead single “Youth” yields faint hints of optimism, with Thomas Savage’s distinguished falsetto juxtaposing urgent guitars and satisfying hooks. Conversely, the deceptively titled “Little Dancer” delves deep into the furthest reaches of a tortured soul with a level of seething oppression and pressure-cooker-tension akin to Suuns. It’s an emotionally unsettling, quietly disturbing and decidedly brilliant record. KINS sound like they’ve finally discovered what they’ve been looking for.
