Jordan Cardy, alias Rat Boy has been on the radar since the release of his debut single “Sign On,” which shot to number one in the UK Vinyl Charts in 2015. Only 21 years old, Cardy’s lyrics are symptomatic of British millennial culture, focusing on situations such as trying and failing to use fake ID on a night out (“Fake ID”) or being fired from a job at Wetherspoons (“Sign On”). Resolutely DIY in his approach, and always off-kilter, it’s hard not be drawn into Rat Boy’s often haphazard, but ultimately identifiable stylings. He will be sure to draw a big crowd at The Camden Roundhouse in May.
Performing in London, Cardy – who won NME’s ‘Best New Artist’ award only last year – will be promoting his hotly anticipated debut album, “Scum,” which is due to be released later in 2017. Whilst the finer details about “Scum” are hard to come by at this point, lead single “Revolution” and recent follow-up “I H8 U” will certainly fit effortlessly into Rat Boy’s frenetic live shows. His support at The Roundhouse, Spring King and The Sherlocks, should similarly contribute to a charged atmosphere, with both bands specialising in the same crowd-pleasing indie-rock style that Rat Boy is so clearly influenced by.
Tickets are available for £16 (plus booking fee), and doors for the event are at 7pm.
The event has no age restrictions, however under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, and under-14s must purchase tickets in the seated area.
