We don’t know about you, but to us, Scotch eggs have always brought to mind memories of British holidays huddled on a picnic blanket, shading yourself from the summer sun whist fending off wasps (and your pesky sister) from your flask of lemonade.
It’s an enduring image. But, needless to say the Scotch egg has never been the most glamorous of snacks. Until now that is.
The humble Scotch egg has been given a much-needed makeover by Oliver Hiam and Dominic Hamdy at Scotchtails, who’ve made their somewhat popular home nestled in the cosy confines of Borough Market, London (nearest tube: London Bridge).
This culinary team have brought the outdated commuter snack bang up to date with a variety of options ranging from traditional to experimental, with a choice of either chorizo, pork and caramelised red onion/fennel, beetroot and lentil and even squid!
Their meat is free range and their choice of eggs are Burford browns, which have an incredibly vibrant orange yolk (the sign of a happy hen!).
You can sample the goods for yourself at Borough Market (look for the queue of ravenous people!)
See their website & twitter feed for details on their culinary adventure.
