John Cooper Clarke is arguably one of the most important wordsmiths Britain has ever produced.
Ever since his initiation into the public psyche back in the seventies, his charismatic poetry has served as a social commentary on working class life. He hung around with punks and rockers, stood up for the rights of his common men and women and is still very much active on the beat poetry scene today.
His unmistakable image and trademark wit have made him a British icon and thankfully he shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.
The Stand Up & Spit series brings you the best in the business and tonight is no exception. Be sure to grab a seat early, because he’s bound to draw a crowd.
Also performing is Emily Harrison, who’s a member of the “Burn After Reading” collective and winner of the 2010 Christopher Tower Poetry Prize for young writers.
