Scottish lo-fi specialists Meursault will launch new album “I Will Kill Again”
at The Lexington on Saturday March 4.
After a lengthy hiatus, punctured only by the sparing “Simple Is Good” EP (2016), Neil Pennycook’s project hasn’t lost its definitive sound for its fifth effort. Defined by introspective songwriting and atmospheric arrangements, you should expect Meursault’s music to work perfectly within The Lexington’s intimate 200-capacity venue space.
Comprising of Neil Pennycook and a series of collaborating musicians, Meursault is a stalwart name in the Scottish indie scene, receiving early critical acclaim for their 2009 debut album, “Pissing on Bonfires / Kissing with Tongues.” After peaking with a nomination for Scottish Album of the Year for 2013 release “Something for the Weekend,” the collective temporarily disbanded in 2014 – leaving a significant gap on the national alt-folk / lo-fi circuit. Coming back to Meursault after time away under the moniker Supermoon, Pennycook has created a typically complex but immersive listening experience in “I Will Kill Again” (released on Song, by Toad Records on Monday February 27). Now Meursault are playing sparing dates in 2017, having recently finished a brief tour of Scotland.

Meursault will be supported on the night by Faith Elliott, an up and coming singer songwriter from Edinburgh, who, judging by her recent “Insects EP,” shares much similarity with the DIY folk sensibilities of Meursault’s early work.
Tickets are available for £8 in advance or £10 on the night, and doors for the event are at 8pm.
The gig will take place in The Lexington’s upstairs venue, and, being a public house, the event is 18+.
