The debut EP from one of Brighton’s more mysterious acoustic artists is a beguiling blend of pianos, ambient atmospherics and orchestral romanticism. In fact, romance is at the heart of Chris Phillips’ musical manifesto here, albeit the somewhat hopeless kind.
With a vocal style that sits somewhere between James Morrison, Damien Rice and Ben Howard, Bacchus spins tales of genuine heartache with captivating dynamics, tasteful poetic lyricism and just the right amount of space to reflect on the fact that this man is laying his soul bare (warts and all) for all to see. A break-up record that demonstrates an immense potential.
