Gig promoters Bird On The Wire proudly note that Mac DeMarco has come a long way since his first London set at Birthdays – a 250 capacity venue – in Dalston four years ago. Now, playing two practically sold out shows at 02 Academy Brixton, DeMarco has scored his biggest headline success to date. And with the release of his third album “This Old Day” scheduled for a few weeks before his performances in South London, his stock should continue to rise into 2017.
Hailing from West-Coast Canada, DeMarco captured critical attention through his languid, often psychedelic sound, that is both a relaxing but intensely immersive listen. Garnering support from Pitchfork with his debut full album “2,” DeMarco continued to build momentum with his sophomore effort, “Salad Days” and mini follow-up “Another One” in 2015. Now well hyped across the music press, DeMarco has attracted a strong fanbase, and developed a reputation for creating endearing, low-key indie rock. His eagerly anticipated third album “This Old Day” looks set to further cement his strong position, with DeMarco, in interview with Pitchfork promising a typically “sloppy” but “mellow” sound. Backed by his full band at Brixton, DeMarco will effortlessly create the chilled mood of his studio albums, which should in no way distract from his clear aptitude as a performer and songwriter. To get yourself suitably hyped for his dates, we recommend checking out the title track to “This Old Day,” which was released earlier this year.
Tickets can be purchased on resale, starting at £55.
Doors are at 7pm, with support provided by The Courtneys.
The gig is ages 8+, but all under 14s to be accompanied by an adult.
